SAMPLE EXCERPT:
“What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book?”
Catherine the Great, one of history’s powerful women, has had rumors that scandalized more than a few numbers of her numerous memoirs through the years since she died. But Robert Massie didn’t choose to write about Catherine to confirm - or squash rumors about her nymphomania or her secret babies or her purported romp with a horse. He wrote about Catherine the Great because he was, very simply, enthralled with the story of her life.
At first, he wasn’t interested about her at all when a close friend suggested he write about her. He knew there were a lot of writers who’d written about her already and he rather wanted to write about an obscure personality who’s got a good life to offer and can trigger his passion of writing a biography like he was writing a novel. But then he was asked the question are those books good books?” He took it to mean, “Did those books give justice to the lady?” So he took ahold of her books and research about her, and he was hooked, line and sinker...
